Calling out my own excuses was the best move I ever made

I used to blame everything but myself for not exercising. One day, I wrote down all my excuses and saw how silly they were. Now I jog every morning, no questions asked. It's brutal, but facing the truth fixed my lazy habits. Try it if you're tired of your own stories.

Man, I should try this... my main excuse is "my socks aren't the right color for running" which sounds even dumber when I say it out loud.

Wasn't there a whole thing online about "productive procrastination"? It's where you fixate on some tiny, made up hurdle to avoid the actual scary task. Your sock color excuse is a perfect example of that. Your brain would rather have you worry about laundry than face the effort of a run. It's a crafty way to feel like you're solving a problem without doing the hard part. The fix is to just ignore the color and go, because the run is the only real thing that matters.

That sock color thing is probably part of a bigger story you tell yourself about not being ready. Wonder what happens if you call out that whole story, not just the excuse of the day.
