Buddy told me I was spacing my tomato plants too close together
After 3 years of crowded plants and low yield, he showed me his setup with 24 inches between each one and my harvest doubled that same season, anyone else been giving plants too little room?

Oh wow, 24 inches? I've been cramming mine in with maybe 10 inches between them - no wonder my plants look like they're fighting each other!

I was just reading a garden blog last week that said the whole point of spacing is air flow, not just root room. They claimed you need at least 18 inches for most veggies to keep fungus and mildew from taking over. My neighbor swears by 24 inches for tomatoes, and he gets these massive plants every year. I tried 12 inches once and yeah, my peppers looked like they were wrestling for sunlight. It's a pain to give up that space, but your plants will probably stop looking so stressed out.
