Why does nobody talk about returning shopping carts in the pouring rain in Austin?
Last week in Austin I got soaked returning my cart after a downpour hit out of nowhere. Everyone was just abandoning them in the lot, like 20 carts scattered, and I was the only one walking back. I get the convenience of ditching it, but is it really that hard to walk 30 seconds in the rain? Has anyone else been the weirdo who actually does it while everyone watches?

The real problem is those carts are a lawsuit waiting to happen when they roll into someone's car during a storm. Austin lots are already chaos with all the lifted trucks blocking sightlines, add rain and you got a shopping cart missile. The people ditching them arent lazy, theyre just gambling that their insurance premium is lower than getting soaked. But heres the thing, if everyone just took the 30 seconds, nobody would need to park close to the entrance in the first place. The carts would be in the corral and the lot would actually be drivable.
