TIL a $60 'miracle' stain remover ruined my favorite couch cushion

So I got this spray from a home show last weekend, some guy swore it would pull out red wine stains like magic. My couch had this old spill from a party back in June, figured why not. Sprayed it on, waited, wiped. Now the cushion has a weird faded circle that's way more noticeable than the wine stain was. Called the company, they said I used too much. Total waste of sixty bucks. Anyone else fall for these overpriced cleaning gimmicks?

Did you follow the directions exactly? Most people don't read the fine print on these specialty products. They're formulated different than regular cleaners, so you gotta use the exact amount they say. I got a similar spray for cat pee on my rug and it worked perfect, but I measured with a teaspoon like the bottle said. Your mistake was spraying heavy trying to cover the whole stain. Those professional grade spot removers need a light mist then patience, not a soaking. Sixty bucks is a lot but if it saves your three thousand dollar couch it's worth it.

Another thing nobody's bringing up is the fabric type. A lot of these high-end couches use performance fabrics that have a waterproof backing or a stain-resistant coating already baked in. If you soak that kind of material, the cleaner just sits on top and never really penetrates to where the stain is. Plus you could be stripping away that factory coating, which is a nightmare to fix. I learned this the hard way with a microfiber sofa - lighter applications work way better because they actually get into the fibers without overwhelming the protective layer. The couch manufacturer probably has care instructions that say the same thing.
