That $80 dress shirt ruined my job interview

I bought this cheap dress shirt from a discount rack last month for $80. It looked fine on the hanger but after one wash the collar got all wrinkly and wouldn't lay flat. I wore it to a job interview and kept tugging at it the whole time. Has anyone else had a cheap piece of clothing cost them a shot at something?

Read an article saying some cheaper shirts use a lower quality collar lining that just crumples up after one wash. Sounds like that's exactly what happened here and it's super frustrating. Next time I'd look for one that says "fused collar" or something similar on the tag, supposedly those hold up way better.

Is it really that small of a detail to them though? I feel like if you're already nervous, having your shirt collar look like it got put through a dryer with rocks just makes you feel worse. Hard to focus on selling yourself when you're worried your clothes are falling apart.

Man, come on. You really think a slightly wrinkly collar is what cost you the whole job? Unless you were literally picking at it the entire hour, the interviewer probably didn't even notice or didn't care.
