Spotted a huge patch of wild lupines on a hike near Flagstaff

I was hiking the Sandy Canyon trail last weekend, just outside of Flagstaff, and I turned a corner to see this massive field of blue and purple lupines. I mean, it was easily a couple hundred plants, all in bloom at once. The sun was hitting them just right, and the whole hillside looked like it was glowing. I've seen lupines before, but never a group this big and healthy in a natural spot. It made me stop and just look for a good ten minutes. I guess the spring rains were really good for them this year. Has anyone else found a surprise like that on a local trail recently?

Wow, that sounds amazing. It's funny how nature just does its own thing and gives us these perfect little moments, you know? Makes you wonder what else we're just walking past every day.

My buddy was hiking last week and almost stepped on a tiny, perfect mushroom circle in the pine needles. He said it felt like finding a secret fairy ring, @margareth48. It was right by the trail, and he would have missed it if he hadn't stopped to tie his shoe.

That "secret fairy ring" was probably just waiting for someone to trip over it. Nature's way of saying slow down before you step in something worse. Your buddy got lucky with a shoe lace instead of a patch of poison ivy.
