Showerthought: Lamps make better sun for indoor plants

I believe keeping plants under artificial light is smarter than using windows. The light is always even, so they don't stretch or burn. My whole shelf looks perfect now, without relying on the weather.

Totally agree that consistency beats natural light most of the time. Plants stretching for a window is just sad to watch. You've got it figured out without relying on fickle weather.

My succulents got all leggy last winter from low light. Switching to grow lights made a huge difference in my experience.

Read somewhere that leggy growth is called etiolation (basically the plant's survival mode). Makes total sense why steady grow lights fix the issue.

But what about plants that naturally get leggy? Like some vines or tradescantia. I've had a few that grew long stems even under strong lights. Maybe we're too quick to call all stretching a problem when for some plants it's just how they grow. It makes me wonder if we mistake their normal shape for etiolation sometimes.
