I dropped $80 on a fancy moisture meter for my plants and it was a total waste

I kept seeing people online talk about how you need one to water perfectly, so I bought a digital one last spring. Turns out, just sticking my finger in the soil works better for my ferns and pothos. The meter gave me weird readings that made me overwater my snake plant. Has anyone else found these tools to be more trouble than they're worth?

That "eighty bucks for a stick" feeling is everywhere now, even at the grocery store.

Actually, grant.nina had it right about the feeling being everywhere. That stick was probably some fancy kitchen gadget or art supply, not just any stick. The point is how normal overpriced stuff feels now. It's not about one item but the whole vibe of getting ripped off on basics. You see it at the grocery store like they said, but also just buying anything at all. Makes you wonder what they'll charge for next.
