Hot take: That garden center worker who called me out on my pruning actually saved my roses
Last spring at a local nursery in Portland, this older lady watched me grab loppers and said 'you're gonna butcher those bushes with that attitude.' She pulled me aside and showed me how to cut at a 45 degree angle just above the bud, not straight across like I'd been doing for 3 years. Has anyone else had a random stranger fix a bad habit you didn't know you had?

Saw the exact same thing happen at a coffee shop last month where this barista gently told a customer their pour over technique was wasting half the grounds and showed them how to bloom it properly. It's wild how we go through life with these little blind spots, thinking we're doing things right because nobody ever corrected us. That lady did you a real solid, those straight cuts probably caused rot that you never connected to your pruning. Makes me wonder what other bad habits I'm walking around with that someone could fix with 30 seconds of advice.

Are there certain types of things you think people are most likely to be doing wrong without knowing it? Like is it always the stuff we learned by watching someone once and never questioned.
