TIL that bringing up the ending of 'The Gone Girl' book will get you uninvited from a book club

I was at a friend’s place in Denver last month for a casual dinner. Someone mentioned the movie and I said 'oh yeah, the book ending is way darker because she frames him for murder.' Turns out three people hadn't finished the book yet. The host asked me to leave. No joke. Has anyone else gotten banned from a club for spoilers by accident?

Three years ago I spoiled the twist in "The Sixth Sense" for my sister's book club and they still bring it up at Thanksgiving. Honestly, that host overreacted big time, getting thrown out over a movie chat is rough. Hope you get invited back once they finish it, that's a brutal way to learn who your real friends are.

Three years ago my buddy Dave spoiled the ending of "The Usual Suspects" at my game night and I just froze mid-poker hand. But instead of blowing up at him I made it a running joke, every time we hang out I bring it up and call him "Keyser Dave" now. That approach actually brought us closer instead of ending a friendship over a stupid movie moment. Your sister's book club is still mad because you made them feel dumb in front of other people, that sting lasts way longer than the spoiler itself. My advice is apologize once, own it completely, and then just let them mess with you about it. If they still toss you out for good over this, then yeah you learned who your real friends are, but give it a minute because people do get over this stuff.
