Stopped reading aloud in my book club and it fixed everything
For two years I read every passage out loud during our weekly debates to prove my point, but last February in Austin someone finally said I was hogging the conversation. Now I just refer to page numbers and let people flip there themselves, which cuts our arguments in half. Turns out when you stop performing the text, everyone actually pays more attention to what it says. Anyone else had to change how they debate to keep the group from falling apart?

Oh man, I was totally that guy at first. Thought reading the exact words was the only way to make my case, but yeah, it just turned into a performance. Hearing this actually makes me want to try just pointing to page numbers instead.
