Question about arguing over book formats in my club and almost losing a member

Last month at my book club meeting, I mentioned I only read physical copies and said audiobooks don't count as real reading. One of our newer members got super quiet and almost quit the group. Turns out she has dyslexia and audio is the only way she can enjoy books. I felt like a total jerk. Now I'm wondering if our club should have a rule about not judging how people consume books. Has anyone else run into this kind of format debate causing drama?

Oh man, way to accidentally become the book club villain in one sentence. Look, gatekeeping how people read is a great way to make the hobby feel like a weird competition instead of something fun. A rule against judging formats sounds like a solid idea, especially since some folks need audio just to participate at all.

My cousin only listens to audiobooks because his commute is two hours each way.
