Honestly, our book club in Phoenix spent a full 45 minutes debating if a character's pet ferret was a metaphor before someone just read the author's note saying it was based on her real pet.

Tbh, we could have avoided the whole thing if Karen had just flipped to the back of 'Midnight Whispers' first, but does anyone else get totally derailed by symbolic animal arguments?

Remember when I used to dig for hidden meaning in every little detail? That podcast changed my mind. Hearing the author flat out say the dog was just her childhood pet made me realize we overthink things. Now I check for an author's note first.

Yeah, that podcast idea about the dog being just a pet really got me too. I used to be the one finding symbols in everything, but now I always check for an author's note first. It saves so much time and stops us from making up a story the writer never meant.

Heard a podcast where a writer said sometimes a pet is just a pet... but book clubs never believe that.
