That shift where everything went sideways but the weld held

Had a day last month in Gary where the crane timing went to hell and we had to hand-align a 14-foot section of ductwork in a driving rain. Foreman kept yelling about the schedule, but the real kicker was my TIG torch dying mid-pass on a stainless line. I mean, I had to finish with a stick rod and old-school patience, and honestly it came out cleaner than half the machine work I've seen. Everyone else on the crew was griping about the weather and the overtime, but I kind of loved it. Anyone else ever have a job that should've been a disaster but turned into your best work?

Finish with a stick rod and old-school patience" sounds like you're describing a war story, not a duct job. Tbh, a weld holding in the rain is just called Tuesday for half the guys I know. Glad it worked out, but maybe save the heroics for when the building actually falls down.
