Spent a whole shift in Mobile trying to get a flange to seat, turns out the gasket was upside down

I was on a shutdown at the plant down there, fighting with this 10-inch steam line for two hours. My new helper, Dave, finally asked if the rubber ring was supposed to have the bead facing the valve body. I flipped it over and it dropped right in. Anyone else have a moment where the fix was embarrassingly simple?

Lol the "mind reading" part got me. I just started putting stuff in my phone calendar, even dumb things, and it actually helps.
