DAE find the constant welding code revisions a pain?

Just got hit with another update to the ASME Section IX standards (like, come on, we just had one last year). It means retraining and recertifying, which eats into project time. The worst part is the documentation never seems to sync up with the changes. I spend half my day on the phone clarifying things instead of actually working.

Yeah, the retraining slows us down, but do the new rules fix old issues? William_fox4's guide is a good start, but why do they change things so much? I want to know if these updates make welding safer or just create more work.

Man, set up a quick reference guide for the new stuff.

That guide idea is fine for the basics, but the real issue is in the details they keep changing. Every time they rewrite a rule, it's because someone found a crack in the old way of doing things. It feels like more work now, but it's usually closing a loophole or fixing a method that turned out to be risky. So yeah, it's a hassle, but it does tend to make things safer over time.
