Appreciation post: the old boilermaker in Gary who made me re-roll a tube sheet by hand, not with the machine
Back in 2009 I was on a job in Gary, Indiana and my lead man made me scrap a whole tube sheet I had just rolled with the hydraulic roller because two tubes were off by a hair. At the time I was fuming, but he stood there and said 'the machine don't feel the metal, you do,' and we re-rolled all 40 tubes by hand that afternoon. Now I still check my fits by feel before I ever touch the machine, and I catch stuff the guys around me miss. Any of you still get grief from the younger crew for doing things the slow way?
