That time my aunt thought word games were the height of complex play
Ngl, we all played them for years without a thought. Now my group would rather debate game mechanics for hours.

Remember when a triple word score was the biggest brain burn. Now we break out calculators for dice odds. Last week we argued for an hour about rolling two d10s versus one d20. We used to just laugh at silly words, now we debate probability tables. It's funny how our idea of a complex game totally changed.

Scrabble tiles felt so deep back then, now we just argue about dice probability for three hours straight.

On the Ludology podcast, they said game design focus changed from theme to mechanics. I mean, modern games often have so many rules that you need to think about numbers all the time. So arguing about dice odds is just part of playing now, which is kinda funny but also true.
