That guy who taught me Catan at a coffee shop is still my favorite gaming memory

I was at a local shop near downtown Austin last summer, just staring at the box, and this random dude in a faded band tee asked if I wanted to learn. He spent 45 minutes walking me through settlements and roads without once making me feel dumb for asking dumb questions. He even let me win our first game just to keep me interested. Has anyone else had a stranger become your go-to gaming buddy after one good session?

Pete sounds like the kind of person every gaming community needs more of.

Yeah, remember that feeling of someone just taking the time with you? That's exactly what happened to me with a board game night at a library. There was this older guy named Pete who saw me flipping through a game rulebook and just sat down. He didn't try to explain everything at once, just the basics to get started. He showed me how to pick quick cards and when to bluff a little. We ended up playing three rounds and he gave me his number to meet up again the next week. Always good when someone makes the whole thing feel less intimidating and more like a shared joke.
