Took a $9/hr pay cut to switch careers and my take home went UP $200 a month
Left my warehouse job in Columbus making $21/hr for an office gig at $12/hr because I was sick of wrecking my back, and I was sure I'd be eating ramen for a while. Turns out the warehouse was docking me for parking, uniforms, and a bunch of other junk, plus the new job covers health stuff my old one didn't. Did anyone else find out their old paycheck was smaller than it looked once all the hidden costs came out?
Kind of hard to believe the math works out that clean, honestly. A $9/hr drop is around $1,500 a month before taxes, so going up $200 means the old job was eating like $1,700 in hidden stuff. Parking and uniforms at a warehouse usually run maybe $50 to $100 a month, not hundreds. And health coverage is a real cost but most warehouse gigs do offer something, even if it's bad. Not saying you're lying, just that those numbers don't add up for most people reading this.
