The day I gave up on internal cable routing for good

I spent 6 hours last Thursday trying to thread a derailleur cable through a 2018 carbon frame and snapped two cables before quitting. A buddy from Nashville told me he just uses zip ties and external housing now, and after that nightmare I finally get why. Anyone else go back to external routing on certain frames?

I had the SAME nightmare on a 2019 frame and went back to zip ties and external housing on that bike for good. No more fishing cables through tight spots or snapping them. Running it along the downtube with some nice matching black ties actually looks clean and saves me hours of frustration. It works perfectly fine for shifting and I don't miss internal routing one bit.

Did you use any special trick for getting the zip ties to stay tight, @martin.paige?
