A noisy repair session turned my view on quick fixes upside down
I always thought eyeballing spoke tension was fine, but when a wheel I 'fixed' started pinging like a music box in front of a crowd, the giggles were brutal. Their amusement made me see that using a tension meter avoids public embarrassment and builds trust. What everyday shortcut did you stop taking after a funny moment?

Learned to never skip checking brake alignment with a business card after my "fixed" disc brake howled like a startled cat on a steep hill. That single, loud screech in a quiet park made everyone turn, and the feeling was worse than any spoke pinging. Now I always take the extra minute to check the pad clearance, because that sound is basically a public announcement that you messed up.

After @thomas275 noted your public failure, what other shortcuts do you now avoid to prevent similar moments?

Wow, pinging like a music box? That's a whole new level of public failure. I'd never skip the meter again after that.
