Solo register or call for backup - which one helps tips more?

I worked a Friday dinner rush alone tonight and made $85 in tips, but last week with a second person we each only got $45. Does splitting the floor cost us money, or is it just better for the customers?

Used to think more hands meant better service and bigger tips, but seeing that $85 solo compared to $45 each with a partner really shows how much the split eats into things. One person can handle a busy solo shift fine if the place is set up right and the customers aren't too needy. Cutting the floor in half just guarantees you'll walk with a lighter pocket on a good night.

@spencerm46 Exactly, solo shift way better when the setup’s solid.
