That time I burned a customer's neck with a hot towel
I was at my chair in Austin last Friday, rushing through a hot towel shave. I didn't shake the towel out enough before putting it on the guy's neck, and he jumped up yelling. I had to apologize, give him a free haircut, and now I always let towels cool for 10 extra seconds. Anyone else had a close call like that with hot towels?

Is it really that big of a deal though? I mean yeah it sucks but the guy yelped and you fixed it right away with a free cut. I feel like we've all had way worse screw ups that we fixed on the spot and nobody makes a big production out of it.

Your mileage may vary on this, but a free cut doesn't undo the minute where they're bleeding and scared. In my experience, it's not about worst screw ups, it's about not having that first bad moment happen at all. Getting it free just feels like the right thing to do after you messed up, not a huge favor.
