Spent 2 hours chasing a fade line that was actually a shadow from my overhead light
I was working on this kid's cut yesterday, kept seeing this weird line on the left side of his head. Must have gone over it with my trimmer 5 times, fading it out more each time. Finally my coworker came over and pointed out it was just the fluorescent bulb casting a shadow off his ear. Felt like an idiot standing there for 45 minutes fighting something that wasn't even real. Anyone else have a lighting setup in their shop that plays tricks on you like that?

Oh man, I had a similar thing happen but with a mirror setup. Had a guy in the chair and kept seeing this dent in the back of his hairline, went at it with my clippers for a solid 20 minutes thinking something was wrong with my blend. Turned out it was a reflection off this dumb decorative mirror on the wall behind me that was bending the light weird. My coworker was watching the whole time and just let me keep going too. I swear lighting in barbershops is basically designed to make us question our whole career every single day. At least you caught yours before the kid walked out.

Wait, isn't it funny how our brains will just make up problems to solve sometimes? Like you'll stare at something long enough and suddenly every little shadow or reflection turns into a flaw you gotta fix.
