Rant: dropped $240 on a scissor sharpening service that ruined 3 pairs
I paid a guy $240 to sharpen 6 pairs of shears and 3 of them came back cutting like crap, pulling hair instead of gliding. I get that some folks say a cheap mobile sharpener is fine for backups, but others swear you should only trust the factory or a certified service. Where do you all draw the line on getting your shears sharpened?
So a guy with a mobile sharpening rig messed up your shears, and now we're supposed to act like sharpening is some kind of dark art that only the factory can do right? Come on. Sharpening is sharpening. The real problem is that you handed six pairs to one guy without testing him on one first, that's on you as much as it is on him. Paying $240 for six pairs is $40 a pair, which sounds about right for a decent job, so the price wasn't the issue, the guy's hands were. Maybe the lesson here is test one pair before handing over the whole drawer, not that you need to ship your scissors back to Japan every time they go dull.
