I finally stopped using the clipper-over-comb method on my clients with thin hair

Used to do it for everyone because that's how I learned in barber school back in 2018. But after a guy in Memphis complained his crown looked patchy, I switched to blending shears and texturizing techniques instead. Took me about 3 months of trial and error to get the hang of it. Has anyone else dropped a classic method after realizing it was hurting certain hair types?

Man wait, someone in Memphis actually complained about their crown looking patchy? Like they just straight up called you out on it in the chair? That's bold. I'd probably just mutter something and never come back, haha.

Apologized to him right there and fixed it on the spot for free.

Huh, that's pretty refreshing actually. I read somewhere that most people just sit there and nod along even when they hate how something turned out. It's like we're all too polite to say anything until we get home and vent to our friends. Good on that customer for speaking up and good on you for not getting defensive about it. Most people would rather ghost their barber than have that conversation.
