Okay so I looked into that '15 minute city' thing everyone was calling a conspiracy

I saw a video saying it was just about traffic control, but then I read the actual Oxford city council planning docs from 2022. They literally talk about dividing the city into zones and limiting car travel between them. It's not just about walkability, there are proposed permits and cameras. I was totally ready to dismiss it as nonsense until I saw the official paperwork. Changed my whole view on how these policies get framed vs. what they actually say. Anyone else dug into their own local plans and been surprised?

But those permits are just for through-traffic, not residents.

Oh my god, cooper.nathan, did you even read what sam17 just wrote? It's like you're stuck on repeat. The permits are literally for the people who live there so they can park near their own houses. The whole point is to stop random through-traffic from taking all the spots. Sam17 explained it perfectly. I mean, have you never lived somewhere with permit parking? It's not that hard to get.

Actually cooper.nathan, that's not how it works in most places. Those permits are absolutely for residents too. Like in my old neighborhood, you needed a resident permit sticker just to park overnight on the street. If you had guests over, they had to get a temporary pass or they'd get a ticket. The through-traffic thing is usually a separate time limit, like a 2-hour max for non-permit holders during the day. So the permit system covers both.
