Just had a contactless payment fail at CVS this morning

I was grabbing coffee and a snack before work, tap my card on the reader, and it just beeps red. Tried three times, same thing. The cashier says it's probably a PIN issue, so I run it as credit and it goes through fine. Anyone else have contactless just stop working out of nowhere on a card that was fine the day before?

I read somewhere that contactless failures can happen if the card's chip has some minor damage or if the terminal needs a reset. Tapping your card after a failed chip read could confuse the system. Did the cashier try to reboot their machine?

You know, that thing about tapping after a chip failure confusing the system really resonates with me. I had a similar thing happen at a grocery store last week where my card just wouldn't tap no matter what I did, and the cashier just kept saying to try again. It's so frustrating when you're standing there with a line of people behind you and the machine just blinks at you. I ended up having to use my actual chip, and it worked fine, so maybe there's something to that damage idea. I mean, it's not like these machines are ever super reliable in the first place, right?
