My chocolate cake turned into a pancake last night

I was baking a birthday cake for my friend and everything seemed fine until I opened the oven. The whole thing had sunk in the middle, like a giant chocolate crater. I think I messed up the baking powder measurement, maybe I used a tablespoon instead of a teaspoon. It happened around 9 PM and I had to run to the store for a box mix to save the party. Has anyone else had a cake completely collapse like that? What usually causes it?

Honestly, that sounds more like you opened the oven door too early.

Oh man, my buddy did that with a souffle last week. The thing just fell flat and looked so sad. He learned that lesson the hard way.
