I used to think signing off on every invoice was 'good management' and then I saw the actual numbers after 7 weeks
Back in 2021 I was running a small print shop in Tacoma and I made everyone get my signature on any purchase over $5. I felt like a real boss. Then our bookkeeper quit and I took over the books for 7 weeks. I was spending 9 hours a week signing stuff and we still overspent by $400 on paper because nobody wanted to bug me for a $30 ream. Now I have a $75 auto-approve limit and I get a weekly report. How do you all handle small spending without slowing everyone down?
My buddy Dave ran a bike shop in Bellingham and did the same thing, made his guys get him to sign off on every little part order, and one week he lost $600 because nobody wanted to interrupt him for a $12 tube. He switched to a $50 limit and a Friday report and said it was the best thing he ever did.
