I used to think all foam rollers were the same, a $9 one taught me otherwise

Back in 2019 I bought a cheap foam roller from a big box store near Portland and used it for years, convinced the expensive ones were a scam. Then my physical therapist let me try her fancy one with the ridged surface and my back felt looser after 5 minutes than it ever did with mine. Anybody else have a fitness tool they swore was a gimmick until they actually tried the quality version?

Figured it was all hype too until my buddy let me use his Theragun knockoff versus the real thing. Night and day is right, cheap ones just vibrate your skin, the good stuff actually works the muscle.

Different density is a real thing too. Cheap ones are basically pool noodles, they don't push deep enough to hit the knots. Same with lacrosse balls, the cheap knockoffs dent way easier and just roll around instead of digging in.

I used to think a ball was a ball and it didnt matter, but you're right about the density thing @simonl11. Grabbed a cheap one once and it felt like pressing a marshmallow against my shoulder blade, zero pressure where it counted. Switched to a proper lacrosse ball and the difference was night and day, it actually sinks in and stays put.
