I thought buying the cheapest paint at Walmart was smart money, then I repainted my hallway 3 times in one month
I was at the Walmart in Athens picking up rollers when a guy in the paint aisle told me his $12 gallon peeled in a damp basement within 8 months. I laughed it off and bought it anyway, and by week 3 I was back to buy the $34 can because the first coat looked like watered down milk on my walls. Anyone else have a cheap supply run blow up in their face like that?
The part about the guy warning you right there in the aisle and you laughing it off is what gets me. That was a free heads up and you still walked into it. Three weeks is crazy fast for paint to fail, I figured even the junk stuff would at least hold up a couple months. I did the same thing with a $15 gallon once and it took four coats before the color even showed up right, so I ended up spending more than if I had just bought the good can first. Cheap paint is never actually cheap once you count your time and the extra coats. Lesson learned the hard way for both of us I guess.
