The 2006 Omen remake vs the original, I finally get the hate now

I watched the original 1976 Omen last week after years of only knowing the 2006 version, and the difference is insane, the original builds dread with silence and shadow while the remake just throws gore at you every 5 minutes. My buddy Dave swore up and down the remake was better because it was 'cleaner looking', but the lack of atmosphere made me check my phone twice. Has anyone else gone back to a hated sequel or remake and realized the 'bad' one actually ruined the vibe for you?

Man, it's just a movie. Maybe check your phone less.

Actually, the research on attention spans shows most people can't even follow a two hour movie without checking their phone these days. That's the whole point of the complaint, not just being cranky about screens.
