Pro tip: watching bad movies with the director's commentary on actually changed my mind about The Core

After 5 years of hating the silly drill ship and the ridiculous science, I listened to Jon Amiel explain how they built every set piece around real geophysics questions and suddenly the whole thing clicked as a pulpy adventure, so has anyone else had one commentary track flip their opinion on a movie they used to trash?

That thing about the drill ship made me laugh. My buddy Tom used to trash Waterworld nonstop. Called it a wet mess, the whole bit. Then he put on the commentary with Kevin Reynolds one hungover Sunday. Reynolds talked about how they built that entire atoll set and the smoker scene around real survival logic. Tom said it clicked for him as a goofy road movie about resources, not a failed epic. He still thinks the acting is rough, but he defends the world-building now. Weird how one dude talking can flip a switch like that.
