Told my boss I was leaving and he offered me $5k more on the spot
After 2 years of getting passed over for lead positions at my HVAC company in Phoenix, I finally put in my two weeks. My boss Scott called me into his office and said 'we can do $5,000 more plus a truck allowance.' I already accepted the new job though so I had to turn it down. Has anyone else had a company suddenly find money when you're walking out the door?

Told my boss I was leaving and he offered me $5k more on the spot" - I mean, that sounds nice and all but honestly are we really supposed to act like $5k is some life changing amount? After two years of being passed over, it kinda feels like they just threw the first number they could think of at you to see if you'd bite. Not gonna lie, a truck allowance is nice and all but its still a bit of a slap in the face when they had all that time to give you a promotion but waited until you had one foot out the door. Most of the time when companies do that, they're just trying to keep you there long enough to find someone else cheaper. You made the right call by sticking with the new job.

Same thing happened to me, it's insulting when they act like extra cash fixes everything.

Right? "Extra cash fixes everything" like we're supposed to just forget they ignored us for two years. That five grand is basically a bribe to stick around while they find a cheaper replacement. It's like they think we're goldfish with no memory.
