Used to think first dates at coffee shops were boring, now I actually prefer them over dinner dates.

After a disaster last spring where I sat through a $90 steak dinner with a guy who spent the whole time on his phone, I started suggesting a quick latte at the local cafe instead and it totally changed how I filter out mismatches because you can dip in 15 minutes if there's zero spark, has anyone else swapped to low-stakes meetups?

Coffee shop dates are the move. You can bounce after one sip if its bad without feeling guilty about the bill. Plus its easier to actually talk without all the weird dinner table silence.

Three times I tried the fancy dinner date thing and ended up stuck for two hours with someone who wouldn't stop talking about their cat's gluten allergy. @michaelchen coffee shops are perfect because you can just point at your empty cup and go "welp" and there's no awkward wait for the check. Plus if the conversation's good you can always grab another round instead of feeling trapped.

Saw a study that said 68% of people prefer coffee dates because they feel less pressure to be interesting.
