Picked the loud bar over the quiet coffee shop, instantly regretted it
Last Friday in Austin I had a first date with a guy who seemed great in texts. I chose this crowded sports bar near Rainey Street instead of the cozy cafe he suggested, thinking it would be more fun. We spent 45 minutes yelling over a trivia night and I couldn't hear a single thing he said about his job. When I finally suggested we move outside, he admitted he was relieved because he hated that place too. Has anyone else picked a venue to look cool and totally messed up the vibe?

Did he actually tell you he hated the place, or did he just say that to make you feel better about picking it? That detail matters because if he was just being nice, you might be reading way more into it than you should. Next time just ask him straight up where he wants to go and see if he picks something real.
