Which way do you go on the CDT says the AT vs. PCT debate
So I had to pick between the Colorado Trail and the Wind River High Route last summer. I went with the Wind Rivers because I wanted more remote stuff and less people. The trail was brutal though, 12 days of scrambling and no real path for 40 miles. Did I make the wrong call or should I have stuck with the Colorado Trail for its better markings and resupply points? What's your take on rugged routes vs. well trodden ones?

My Wind Rivers trip kicked my ass too but honestly that kind of suffering is what made it memorable. I'd take a brutal off-trail route over a well-graded one any day if you're okay with not seeing a soul for days.

Do you really think the suffering is what makes it good though @uma685? I get wanting solitude but I'd rather save my energy for actually enjoying the views instead of crawling through scree all day. A well graded trail can still be remote and way less painful on the knees.
