Update: my 2012 GPS unit finally gave up on the Lost Coast Trail
The screen just went black halfway to Mattole Beach. I had to navigate the last 8 miles using a paper map I'd packed as a backup, which felt like a weird throwback. Anyone have a reliable GPS model they've been using for a few seasons now?

My old Garmin eTrex 20 lasted like 9 years before it quit. I just got the newer eTrex 32x and the battery life is crazy good, like 25 hours.

25 hours is crazy good? That's what we're calling impressive now? My old GPS from 15 years ago could do 30 hours on two AAs. Feels like we're going backwards if a brand new unit can't even beat that. What are they putting the extra processing power toward if not better battery life?

You're comparing apples to oranges though. That old GPS had a tiny black and white screen and way less going on. Try running maps and tracking on a color screen for 25 hours, it's not bad.
