Paid $180 for a GPS route pack, trail was gone
Bought a premium route bundle for the Wind River Range last month. First trail was completely overgrown, second one crossed a washed-out bridge. Free maps from the ranger station had better detail. Anyone else dumped money on downloadable routes that were total garbage?

Downloaded route packs are a total gamble, I learned that the hard way in the Sierras. Paid for a "premium" set and the GPS line took me straight up a cliff face that didn't match the terrain at all. Now I always cross-check with the free USGS topo maps and the ranger's current trail notes before I head out. Also, read the date on the route file, if it's more than two years old, assume the trail has changed. Your best bet is to use the pack as a rough starting point, but treat the actual ground as the real map.
