Honestly, I heard a group at the trailhead trash the entire Colorado Trail

They called it 'overcrowded and boring' after only doing the first 20 miles near Denver. Tbh, that's like judging a whole book by its cover. Has anyone else had a great experience on a less-traveled section of that route?

That's a real shame they wrote it off so fast. The first section is basically a city walk, but it gets amazing past the first hundred miles. My favorite part was near Lake City, where you might not see another person all day. The whole vibe changes completely once you leave the front range behind.

I read somewhere that the Colorado Trail is way less crowded than the PCT or AT, and that's honestly why I want to try it. That stretch near Lake City sounds like the kind of solitude I'm looking for.

Agree with you completely, that kind of quiet is hard to find on the bigger trails. Really bums me out how some people write off whole sections after just a few days. Isn't the whole point of hiking to get away from everyone for a while?
