Vent: My mom brought up my ex's name at Thanksgiving dinner

So last Thursday at my aunt's house in Ohio, my mom casually asked how my ex-boyfriend Mark was doing during the gravy pass. I haven't talked to him in 2 years and she knows that. Why do parents do this and how do I shut it down without making a scene?

Yeah did she give any reason for bringing him up out of nowhere? I mean my mom does stuff like that too. One time she asked about my middle school crush at a family barbecue like we were still friends or something. Parents just latch onto random names from our past and forget we've moved on I guess. Maybe she saw something on Facebook that reminded her of him or she was just trying to make conversation and picked the worst possible topic.
