Old school potluck vs. now where everyone brings store bought
I used to bring my grandma's baked mac and cheese to every Thanksgiving, spending like 3 hours on it. Now I just grab a tray from Costco because nobody even notices the difference after the first bite. My cousin brought canned cranberry sauce last year and my uncle actually complained it wasn't homemade. Is it just me or have family gatherings turned into a weird mix of people who expect fancy food but won't cook themselves?

Blame the people who stopped doing the work themselves... my wife's family still does a proper potluck where everyone brings their signature dish from scratch, and you can definitely tell the difference between that and a store-bought tray. The problem isn't that nobody has time, it's that folks got lazy and started cutting corners, then got surprised when others call them out on it. If your uncle noticed the canned cranberry sauce, then clearly some people still care about the effort put in.

Man, I feel this. It's like everyone wants the homemade vibe but nobody has the time or energy anymore.
