My cousin's potluck casserole was way better than I expected
So at Thanksgiving my cousin Sarah shows up with this weird looking broccoli casserole. I've always been skeptical of her cooking since she once brought a burnt pie to Easter. She said it had some kind of crumb topping with cheese and I was ready to just push it around on my plate. But man I took one bite and it was actually incredible. The broccoli was still a little crunchy and the topping was buttery and crispy. I ended up going back for seconds, which she definitely noticed and gave me this smug look. Has anyone else had a family member surprise you with a dish that you were totally wrong about?

OH my goodness, I had a similar thing happen with my friend's sister last year. She brought this tuna noodle casserole to a potluck and I totally judged it before trying it because it looked so plain and boring. Turns out it was AMAZING and I had to ask for the recipe, which she was WAY too happy to share.

Yeah I totally get what you're saying... It's funny how we build up these ideas about what someone can cook based on one bad experience. I did the same thing with my sister in law's deviled eggs after she brought rock hard brownies to a BBQ once. Turned out her eggs were actually the best I'd ever had, creamy and just the right amount of paprika on top. Now I always give her stuff a chance before judging, but she still gives me that same smug look your cousin did... I guess we deserve it sometimes.

Right there with you, it's the best feeling when someone proves you wrong lol. I had my doubts about my aunt's weird layered jello salad at a family reunion once, but it was actually so good I had to apologize for being a snob. Makes you wonder how many other secretly amazing dishes we've been missing out on.
