Took a gamble on a junkyard alternator versus a reman from AutoZone...

I grabbed a 2005 Camry alternator out of a muddy wreck for $38 instead of paying $140 for a reman, and after three hours of scrubbing contacts it's been flawless for nine months now... anyone else ever roll the dice on a junkyard electrical part and win?

Muddy wreck for $38" - that's a solid find if it's still kicking nine months later. I heard a mechanic on a car talk radio show say that junkyard alternators are often better because they're factory parts, not cheap remanufactured ones with questionable internals. If it's not throwing any codes or dimming your lights then you definitely won that gamble.

Ha, that radio guy was wrong, factory parts can fail too, but glad it worked out.

Hugo825, isn't that just how life works sometimes, the cheap gamble pays off?
