I used to pull every drum by hand, now I hit it with a torch first
Burned two hours last Tuesday fighting a rusted drum on a 2011 Corolla before I remembered to just heat the seam. Ten minutes with the torch and it walked right off. Any of you got a trick for keeping the wheel cylinder from cooking when you do this?
Wrap the wheel cylinder in a wet rag before you start heating. Keeps the rubber from melting and the fluid from boiling. I also keep a spray bottle handy and hit the backing plate right after, just to cool things down fast. Works every time on the rust buckets I deal with. Learned that one the hard way after cooking a cylinder on a Camry years back.
