My brother told me my star trails looked like a toddler scribbled on the sky...
I was super proud of a 30-minute exposure I took from my backyard in Boise, but he pointed out the trails were wobbly because my tripod leg was on a loose patio stone. Now I put a brick under each foot before I start shooting. Anyone have other weird fixes for shaky setups?

Ever try hanging your camera bag from the tripod hook? That extra weight down low really steadies things when you're on uneven ground. I started doing it after a windy night ruined a whole set of shots.

Actually that's a good way to stress the tripod head. The hook is meant for a light weight like a small sandbag, not a full camera bag. I've seen center columns bend from hanging too much.
