Took me 4 hours to realize the new door closer was installed upside down

Picked up a replacement closer for the shop's back door last Tuesday, read the instructions twice, and still mounted it with the arm pointing up instead of down. The door slammed so hard it shook the whole wall, and I stood there cursing the hardware for a solid hour before my buddy glanced at it and said 'dude, flip it over.' Has anyone else had a simple install turn into a multi-hour facepalm because you ignored what was right in front of you?

Four hours for a door closer seems like a lot, but I've spent a whole afternoon fighting a shelf bracket that had a left and right side, so I get it. The real question is whether that wall is actually hurt or if you just got spooked by the noise. Slamming doors sound way worse than they are, and unless you see cracks in the drywall, it's probably fine. Flip it, move on, and save the cursing for something that actually matters, like a stripped screw.
