Three years ago I asked a question here that got me my current job

I posted about feeling stuck in retail and asked for ANY advice on switching careers. A guy in Chicago told me to learn basic Excel and apply for data entry roles. I did exactly that, landed a remote position within 2 months, and I'm still there. What's the best piece of advice YOU ever got from asking something here?

I used to think forums were useless, but a tip here got me my first freelance gig.

Notice how the best advice is always stupid simple, like what clairem47 found. People overcomplicate things when the real fix is usually one basic step forward. That's why these random tips actually work.

People forget that simple advice only works when you have the right foundation. That Excel tip was perfect for that person, but it's not a magic fix for everyone. The best advice I ever got here was actually a list of books to read, not a quick tip. It took me a year to get through them, but it changed how I see my whole field. Sometimes the real solution is a long, boring process, not one easy step.
